Atherton and District Amateur Photographic Society

Bringing photographers together to capture the world around us

ABOUT US

If you’re looking to take better photographs and meet like-minded people, Atherton & District Amateur Photographic Society (ADAPS) is the place to be. One of the largest camera clubs in the Wigan and Leigh area, we’re a progressive, friendly club and proud members of the Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union.

We bring together enthusiastic amateur photographers of all abilities, exploring everything from digital and film to landscapes, wildlife, portraits and creative photography. Run by members for members, ADAPS is fully inclusive and welcomes visitors and new members alike. With events held all year round in our own clubroom and studio, there’s always something happening. If you enjoy photography, want to improve your skills, and have fun along the way, join us on Thursday evenings from 8.00pm — we’d love to see you.

ADAPS is an active member of both the regional federation, the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union(L&CPU), and the national federation, the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain(PAGB).

The club and our members regularly participate in competitions, workshops and events organised by both of these organisations, and several of our members have recently attained Awards for Photographic Merit (APMs), from the PAGB.

ADAPS also hosts one of the major federation events, the L&CPU Annual Individuals Competition.

BEGINNERS COURSES

Available all year round

Looking to get more out of your camera and take your first steps into photography? Our ADAPS Beginners’ Photography Course is the ideal starting point. Designed specifically for newcomers, the course offers clear, practical guidance in a friendly and supportive setting, helping you understand your camera and build confidence in your photography.

Led by experienced members of Atherton & District Amateur Photographic Society, the course covers essential camera settings, basic composition, and simple techniques you can use straight away. It’s a relaxed and enjoyable way to learn, ask questions, and meet others who share your interest in photography, while also giving you a great introduction to the club and the many activities we offer throughout the year.

Testimonial – “A really good course, took time to explain everything individually and answered any questions we had – there was no rush and explained simply so we could all understand, regardless of our level of knowledge”.
