December 2006

Another year draws to a close and members enjoyed our annual Christmas get-together and relaxing amongst good friends.

November 2006

ADAPS members enjoyed an evening in Leigh Parish Church, where we were given free reign to photograph the interior and up in the bell tower. Many thanks to the Church officials for their hospitality.

A good start to the month as we beat Wigan Photographic Society in our annual battle! It was a close-run contest, with an excellent selection of prints and slides entered by both clubs.

October 2006

Congratulations to ADAPS member Des Barr, who scooped a Certificate of Merit for a beautifully simple tree study at the Photographic Big Day staged by the Lancashire & Cheshire Photographic Union (L&CPU).

September 2006

Several ADAPS members enjoyed an evening shooting fireworks in Southport. No doubt we'll be seeing some of the images in future competitions!

We launched a new series of Photographic Technique Nights this month. We will be devoting one Tuesday night per month to giving practical help with items such as camera handling, exposure, composition, lighting and choosing lenses. These extra nights have been provided to meet the demand being created by many of our newer members taking their first steps into photography.

This month ADAPS has photographs featured in three print exhibitions:

'ADAPS Annual Prints Exhibition'
The History Shop, Wigan, 16th - 30th Sept

'An Eye for a Picture'
A photographic collaboration with Leigh Camera Club, Wigan Photographic Society and Wigan 10 Foto Club.
Turnpike Gallery, Leigh, 16th - 30th Sept

'Forestry Commission Exhibition'
Derby Room, Turnpike Centre, Leigh,
16th - 30th Sept

July 2006

This month ADAPS visited Liverpool - starting off with a tour around the National Trust managed former studio of photographer E Chambre Hardman. Then we spent the rest of the day at Albert Dock and along the coast at Formby.

June 2006

ADAPS members had a trip to Yorkshire to visit the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford. We then finished off the day at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, near Wakefield.

May 2006

The start of the month saw us holding our Annual General Meeting to set out the club's policies for the year ahead. Resolutions included a modest increase in membership fees to £30 / £20 per year; standardisation on the size of print mounts used for competitions at 20" x 16" and the decision to standardise the number of entries for all club competitions to upto 4 prints and upto 7 slides. Two new members were welcomed onto the Committee - Jon Jackson and Wayne Keegan.

ADAPS members enjoyed an outdoor photography trip around several local Forestry Commission sites, including Bolton's Horrocks Wood, Viridor Wood near Ashton-in-Makerfield and Windybank near Leigh. ADAPS will be working with the FC to help promote the outdoors.

April 2006

Our 2005-6 competitions season has drawn to a close. The slides competitions were dominated by Des Barr, with Neville Owen snapping at his heels. In our monthly competitions Sue Riley was jubilant as she picked up her first trophy, for best prints. The Annual competition saw club veteran Harry Gladson walking away with four trophies, including the inaugural Bert Ogden Trophy for Best Open Monochrome Prints. Well done to everyone who took part!

This month The Forestry Commission came down to the club and have invited ADAPS to take part in a local photographic project with them. We will be working on this in May.

Another battling success for us, as ADAPS beat Altrincham & Hale PS on both slides and prints in our annual battle with them!

March 2006

A good start to the month, as we beat Leigh Camera Club in our annual photo battle.

February 2006

We have purchased a new studio flash lighting kit for use on our portrait nights and we gave the lights their first airing with our models Maxine, Ruth and Jenny. For many members it was their first try at studio portraiture and everyone enjoyed it - especially our Chairman, Len Hudson. Many thanks to the three ladies for their patience!

January 2006

We begin the new year with a bit of a makeover for the ADAPS website. We have also upgraded our Message Forum to enable unlimited message threads to be posted and to remove all advertising and pop-ups. We hope that all members will feel encouraged to join in our discussions on the forum - just click on the link on the left.

We have purchased an upgrade for Adobe Photoshop to take us up to version CS2. This means that we will be able to demonstrate the latest features of the program in future digital photography workshops.
