With the cold weather setting in we have now installed four
new heaters in the clubroom to help us keep warmer!
November 2005
ADAPS did well in two inter-club competitions this month.
Our annual battle against Wigan Photographic Society saw us winning both slides
and prints. In the L&CPU Slide Knockout competition we finished in 3rd
place out of 20 clubs.
September 2005
A successful showing of our annual Prints Exhibition at Wigan's
History Shop.
August 2005
Following on from our trip to Styal, ADAPS members this month
enjoyed a photographic trip to Bolton Steam Museum - a venue full of photographic
opportunities.
July 2005
ADAPS members enjoyed a photographic outing to Quarry Bank
Mill, Styal, on Sunday 24th July. A ramble along the badger trail was followed
by photographs in the mill house and a picnic. Everyone had a good time.
June 2005
The ADAPS clubroom had a makeover as members pitched in to
decorate and brighten it up. The darkroom is ready for use again by any members
wanting to to a spot of traditional developing.
John Riley has been prolifically penning in praise of Pentax again in this
month's issue of 'Pentax User' magazine. His 3 page article is an exploration
of Pentax M Series cameras. Well done John!
May 2005
At the Society's Annual General Meeting members voted unanimously
to elect Jeff Haworth as our new President. Jeff has served the Society for
over 40 years and we are very pleased to welcome him in his new role.
At the AGM the competitions rules were amended slightly to include:
- upto 7 slides may now be entered for monthly and annual competitions to
encourage entries.
- maximum of 4 prints may now be entered in the monthly and annual competitions.
- Annual 'Colour' section to be renamed 'Creative Colour' to encourage the
creative use of colour within the image rather than a straightforward colour
print.
- a new section is introduced for the Annual Competition. The 'Open Monochrome
Prints' section is for prints on any subject produced using a single colour.
- a new trophy has been donated to the Society by the family of our late President,
Bert Ogden. The Bert Ogden Trophy shall henceforth be presented for the Open
Monochrome Prints section.
- Members are requested to please ensure that prints entered in all competitions
from now on are mounted on boards measuring 20" x 16". This will
help to prevent prints from being damaged whilst in transit.
April 2005
John Riley has had another article published in 'Pentax User'
magazine - this time a user's first impressions of the Pentax *istDS digital
SLR.
We welcomed our good friend and honorary life member Jez Huscroft back to
the club this month as he gave us a digital tour of parts of the Lake District.
March 2005
For his annual 'Chairman's Evening' Len Hudson presented
'Photos from the Home Front' - a fascinating photographic look at everyday
life during the Second World War.
We started the month on a portrait theme, with a studio photo session to give
members a practical introduction to photographing a model under studio flash
lighting. Many thanks to our two models Jenny and Christine. We also devoted
a digital photography workshop to various techniques for retouching portraits.
February 2005
February saw us taking on Leigh Camera Club in a photo battle
and winning on both slides and prints.
Paul Jones presented an enjoyable evening looking at various aspects of glamour
photography and working with photographic models, which was very well attended.
January 2005
Our first interclub battle of the new year was a resounding
success for ADAPS as we beat Altrincham & Hale PS on both slides and prints!
Len Hudson presented a very informative demonstration of darkroom processing
techniques, which was very well received by many of our newer members with
an interest in film photography and printing.
Our annual post-Christmas night out went very well, with members enjoying
a get-together over dinner at The Waterside Inn, Leigh.
Congratulations to our member Des Barr, who now has the letters CPAGB, having
gained a Credit from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. Well deserved!
Well done to ADAPS member Bert Haddock, who has had a full-page feature in
this month's 'Black & White Photography' magazine devoted to one of his
prize-winning photographs.
