We welcome new members!
Whether you've just bought a camera and are a complete beginner, or have been
taking photographs for a while, whether you're shooting digital or film, 35mm
or medium format, pocket compact or SLR, if you're interested in developing
your photographic skills, learning to take better photographs and looking to
join a friendly and social bunch of like-minded amateur photographers you'll
find a warm welcome awaits you at ADAPS.
There are many benefits of joining ADAPS:
A growing and varied membership
ADAPS has seen a significant increase in membership over the past couple of
years, to the point where we are now the largest camera club in the Wigan, Leigh
and local area.
We currently have around 60 members and are pleased that we have a good mix
of male and female photographers and a cross-section of age groups.
From complete beginners to competition winners
ADAPS members recognise that we were all novices at one point, that we are all
still learning and that we all need various levels of help in getting to grips
with the many aspects of photography.
The club offers an excellent learning environment where less experienced photographers
receive as much help and guidance as they require from other members and from
the varied syllabus of events in order to improve their skills, enjoy taking
photographs, unleash their talents and even winning competitions.
It's about photography
It really doesn't matter what camera or equipment you use to take your photographs.
It's not about film or digital, what equipment you use, or the size of your
gadget bag - but the image that counts, as well as enjoying your photography.
You won't find any equipment snobs or elitism at ADAPS. Our members are currently
using a broad mix of film cameras, from pocket compacts and 35mm SLRs to medium
format kit. We have a growing band of digital photographers using digital cameras
and DSLRs from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Fuji, Kodak, etc. We're all committed to
helping each other to improve our photography.
If you want to learn about traditional darkroom techniques, scanning film or
digital post-processing using computer software we can offer help, advice and
useful tips.
Events all year round
A lively syllabus of practical photography sessions, competitions, photographic
trips, studio sessions, digital imaging workshops and a range of guest lectures
and other events will have you making photographic masterpieces in no time!
Unlike some clubs that only meet for half a year, ADAPS offers a programme of
events all year round, which means that there is bound to be lots for everyone
to enjoy.
In our own clubroom
Many camera clubs meet once a week for a couple of hours in their local library
or community centre. ADAPS is fortunate to have our own clubroom which means
that we can use it as often as we like and that our meetings can go on for as
long as we like, with no need to keep an eye on the clock.
The clubroom is large and also doubles as a studio, with various backdrops,
continuous lighting and studio flash lighting available. We have a kitchen and
toilets as well as a darkroom available to members to use. Because we own the
building it can be made available at any time for extra events or photographic
practise.
Low-cost membership
Please feel free to come along and meet us. There is no charge whatsoever for
visitors to attend two or three meetings in order to get a feel for what the
club is about and to see how you enjoy it.
If you then decide to join, our membership subscription is very low - just £30
per year (less than 60p per week!) Senior citizens and unwaged members pay just
£20. There is no additional charge for spouses.
Your membership entitles you to attend club events throughout the year and will
open up a whole new social life, gain you new friends as well as developing
your hobby and making you a more competent and confident photographer.
Friendly and welcoming
We appreciate that people may find going to a club for the first time a daunting
experience, so we guarantee a welcoming and friendly atmosphere to all new visitors.
Please see our
Syllabus
page and feel free to come along to any of our events and bring your equipment
along with you, any photographs that you want advice on or to generally ask
for any help that you need.
ADAPS is based on Back Stanley Street, Atherton, Greater Manchester, M46 0AB.
We meet every Thursday at 8.00pm.
